Alpha 0.21 Patch Notes - Content™️ and Saving
This has been another big update. Since adding the basic concept of branching paths, I've been fleshing out a lot of the game around that. Including new types of passages, new narrative passage prompts and filling out tons more tooltips. Speaking of those, I finished them all! ...then proceded to add a lot more spots where I'd need them, so that counter ain't going away yet.
Much more importantly, I have implemented a save system into the game! Often requested and very necessary, it will autosave at the start of every new passage. So if you want to stop and pick up a story later, now you can! It's rudimentary now, just one save file and always automatic, nothing manual. But it's better than nothing!
Tooltips: 53 remaining out of 405
Feature changes:
- Added autosave system for keeping progress even after closing the game
- Added new narrative passage prompts
- Added new passage types:
- Trait Change - To rewrite a single trait of a character
- Epilogue - To write short capper paragraphs for individual Story Objects
- Caption - A title card between sections of the story
- Added an option for a player to remove re-rolling option on Story Objects
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed tooltips on Buttons never appearing
- Improved visual feedback of success/failure in Training passage
- Improved under the hood handling of branching choices
- Fixed bug where story flags not used would never be written in the HTML export
- Added warning to main menu about overwriting current saved file
- Refactored roles of GameManager and StoryManager scripts
Next Build:
- Add more passage types
- Make the Quest Resolution branch based on the result
- Add screen for generating cards, independent of any story
- Add function to copy text version of a card to clipboard
- Add random name suggestions to Story Object cards
- Change tooltips to display in a fixed spot and be easier to read
The Future:
- Overhauling the UI
- In game story settings editor
- Improved saving system that allows manual saving, multiple saves and exporting a story midway through
